About

AAHCMS is made up of physicians in Anne Arundel & Howard Counties and is a component of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society. Our mission is to protect and advance the interests of physicians and patients in Anne Arundel and Howard County. Through advocacy, technical assistance, programming, and services, AAHCMS empowers physicians to lead on policies that impact the practice of medicine, access to healthcare, and the public health.

President, Manna Varghese, M.D.

Manna Varghese, M.D. is an Emergency Medicine physician at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland. She earned her B.A. and M.D. through the six-year BA/MD program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Central Florida/HCA Graduate Medical Education Consortium.

Dr. Varghese has extensive experience in organized medicine at the local, state, and national levels. She serves as a MedChi Board Member in the role of Specialty Society Trustee and represents MedChi as a Delegate to the American Medical Association; she is also an active member of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Her leadership in organized medicine began during medical school and residency, where she held multiple roles within the AMA Medical Student Section and Resident & Fellows Section, contributing to advocacy, policy development, and national programming initiatives.

A strong advocate for physician-led decision-making, Dr. Varghese is committed to ensuring that physicians have a meaningful voice in shaping policies that impact patient care and the future of the profession.

President-Elect, Erinn Maury, M.D.

Erinn Maury, M.D. is a rheumatologist and founder of Mid-Atlantic Rheumatology in Millersville, Maryland, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. She earned her medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Dr. Maury is actively engaged in organized medicine and is committed to strengthening physician advocacy at the local and state levels. She is focused on growing physician membership and ensuring that the needs of doctors in the region are clearly represented in policy discussions, particularly in efforts to protect the practice of medicine and safeguard patients’ rights. A passionate advocate for high-quality, physician-led care, she finds the greatest reward in solving complex diagnoses and restoring her patients’ ability to thrive, while remaining steadfast in confronting insurance practices that delay or deny necessary care.

Dr. Maury resides in Baltimore and, outside of medicine, enjoys playing tennis, reading, and spending time with her mother, friends, and her two orange cats, Hank and Milo.

Executive Director, Teresa Healey-Conway

Teresa Healey-Conway is the Executive Director of the Prince George’s County Medical Society and the Anne Arundel & Howard County Medical Society, and serves as staff to MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society, supporting physician advocacy and engagement. With a professional background in political advocacy, government relations, union organizing, and political campaigns, she has nearly a decade of experience leading medical societies and representing physicians’ interests. Prior to her current role, she served as Legislative and Political Representative for AFSCME Council 3, advocating for Maryland state employees, and previously worked as legislative staff in the Maryland State Senate and the Montgomery County Council. On behalf of PGCMS and MedChi, she has served on the Comptroller’s Task Force on Electronic Smoking Devices and the State’s Easy Enrollment Health Plan Advisory Workgroup. A Prince George’s County native and graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School. Teresa holds a B.A. in Political Science from Salisbury University and currently resides in Annapolis, where she also serves on the boards of Hope House Residential Treatment Center and her homeowners association.
